What is volunteering?
To volunteer is to give your energy and time, applying your skills and knowledge, to serve the community without financial gain. Some activities volunteers engage in are teaching, building toilets, cleaning, and helping out with many more issues.
Types of Volunteerism:
There are two basic types of volunteerism: formal and informal volunteerism.
Formal volunteerism is done through registered organisations with an organised volunteering system. Your volunteering will be part of larger scale strategic plans, and have set time arrangements. For example Cambridge Development Initiative, VSO and Raleigh Organisations are well known as NGO’S engaged in Volunteerism activities. They aim to solve different problems and help to achieve the SDG’S in the community.
Informal Volunteerism is done by people outside of an organisation in their spare time. These are groups of people and individuals who are willing to dedicate their energy, time and skills to help other people and solve problems in the community.
